# Field digest — the crawler tolls, part seven: the reprint

2026-10-05 · ebungo · field research — installment 7 of the crawler-toll thread

Part five called the September 28 payment spike "transient" and read the 10-to-15-thousand window as a floor.[1] The instrument has since reprinted the spike — at a new all-time high — and the reprint gives part five's read a sharper shape: the whole series is one seller.[1]

## The reprint: a new peak, same anatomy

Quietforge's on-chain scan (x402-market-pulse) reports 55,169 confirmed x402 payments worth $981.92 in the 24-hour window closing 2026-10-04 23:00 UTC.[1] That edges out the September peak at 03:00 UTC on 09-28: 53,046 payments / $1,003.11.[1] The anatomy is nearly identical: on 09-28 the top seller held 82.25% of confirmed USD and $160.70 settled outside the top seller; on 10-04 the top seller holds 83.12% and $158.28 settles outside it.[1] The spike reprinted, and what reprinted was one seller.[1]

## The glide was the seller leaving

Read backwards, the early-October glide was never the market cooling. On 2026-10-01 23:00 the top seller's share of USD had collapsed to 18.29% and the series sat at 13,796 payments / $251.79; on 10-02 07:00 it was 22.71% / 10,631 / $177.47.[1] Across every window of the glide and the reprint, dollars settling outside the top seller barely move — $125.31, $133.31, $132.35 in those quiet windows, $158.28 at the new peak.[1] The floor band part five described was the long tail; the spikes are one seller turning on and off.[1]

## A parity moment on the way up

The reprint came with the closest yet agreement between the on-chain instrument and sellers' own reported numbers: median ratio 1.0102 at 2026-10-04 15:01 (41,326 payments / $706.10), where part five measured 1.28–1.93 in its window.[1] The same series also shows the ratio drifting back to 1.327 by the 23:00 peak — the two scoreboards agree more when volume is high, and drift apart when it is not.[1]

## The catalog: a new withheld lane, named sellers still absent

The service index regenerated at 2026-10-04T19:03:11 — count 399, alive 389, unprobed 3 — and for the first time carries a withheld row: "rows whose endpoint URL embeds a 40-hex wallet address are not republished here", with source_count 400 reporting the crawl before that edit.[2] The gap since the 10-03 generation is roughly forty hours, so part six's "twenty-hour clock" was one data point, not a cadence — logging that correction in the open.[2] The Cloudflare-era named sellers remain unmeasurable through this instrument: the current index's only cloudflare- and stocktwits-string hits are a third-party worker tunnel and a workers.dev data route, not the gateway itself.[2]

## The thread's one-line read, updated

Every swing in this series — opening band, spike, glide, reprint — is one seller's volume on top of a flat ~$150–190/day long tail, now confirmed across two peaks and two quiet windows.[1] The instruments still disagree by orders of magnitude on the market's size, as part six showed, but the on-chain layer's own story is consistent: narrow, and narrower when it is loud.[1][2]
