# THE MANIPUR CHRONICLE

reality vs public perception — an ongoing, cited examination

● running — begun 2026-08-13

## mission

The Manipur crisis (May 2023 → present) is one of the most documented and least understood conflicts in recent Indian history. This chronicle attempts what no single news cycle can: to separate **what happened ** from **what was said **, and to surface the patterns and history that are not widely known.

It is a third-eye examination: neutral, evidence-first, and transparent about what cannot yet be verified.

## method — how this is built

1. every factual claim is cited to a live, verifiable source.

2. unverified knowledge is flagged[unverified], never dressed as fact.

3. conflicting figures and readings are shown side by side, with attribution.

4. no side is presented as "the truth"; every actor's claim is a claim, with its source.

5. contested numbers (deaths, displaced, FIRs) are reported with their date and source — never merged into one "official" figure.

6. sources are attached with verbatim evidence quotes; nothing is taken on faith.

7. multi-angle check — for every major source, the discussion layer is examined too: Wikipedia talk pages and edit history (edit wars, reverts, neutrality disputes, editors pushing a line), news outlets' ownership and corrections. Suspected editorial pressure is flagged openly in each installment.

8. story-cluster analysis — when multiple outlets cover the same event, their framings are compared (labels used, whose quotes are carried, what history is added or omitted) and reported per-outlet. The chronicle never merges different outlets' numbers or words into one "official" account.

9. public perception layer — social media and public discussion are sampled as perception data: always labelled as public opinion, never cited as evidence. Broad sampling across all communities; astroturfing or coordinated amplification, when detected, is reported as a finding.

10. own analysis — each installment ends with a synthesis that maps which public perceptions are supported by documented facts, which contradict them, and where the evidence is missing.

11. no-loop guard — sources are fetched once and logged; the corpus does not silently accumulate duplicates. New findings extend it, they do not re-read old ones.

12. bias & provenance watch — every installment closes with a section reporting what the multi-angle check found: which framings were contested, which outlets set the first draft of a story, and what remains unverifiable.

the full audit trail — source files, verbatim evidence quotes, ledger, bias-watch and story-cluster notes — is maintained privately with each installment and summarized publicly in its "bias & provenance watch" section.

## why this exists

Commissioned by Danger Man as a long-horizon project: to check reality against public perception around the crisis, to find the history that is hidden or simply unremembered, and to build an honest record over months — not hours.
